History
Coursera is an online education platform that combines courses from the world’s leading universities in 28 countries, from Australia to the United States. In January 2018, 2668 courses were available in English. You can also study Spanish, Chinese, French, Japanese, German, and other languages. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate in electronic form with the signatures of teachers and the seal of the university whose program was completed.
The project was launched in 2012 by Stanford University professors Andrew Nghom and Daphne Koller. During this time, Coursera has become one of the most popular educational platforms in the world. More than 24 million users from different countries are trained online using the capabilities of this platform.
What is Coursera?
Coursera is a convenient platform for learning and networking with like-minded people. All the necessary information is collected in one place. The resource administration compares each course to an interactive textbook containing videos and tests.
All classes are divided into weeks. When viewing the learning plan, you will see the titles and length of the videos and the number of self-study materials and tests. Tests include not only online questionnaires after lectures with multiple choice answers. You will also have to perform creative tasks using the webcam. For example, in the English for Journalism course from the University of Pennsylvania, you need to write a text for a news release and read it on camera, according to the rules from the lessons.
A deadline is indicated for each block of tasks. It is better to complete the exercises at least a few days before the deadline because three of your classmates must check the creative work to complete the program successfully. You will also need to write detailed comments to other participants and give them points. To successfully pass the tests, you must correctly answer several questions. You have three attempts. If you fail to cope with the task, you will have to go through the material again and try to pass the test again after 8 hours.
IMPORTANT: Starting from the first lecture, take notes in a notebook or Google Docs. Enter important facts and new words in it. This will help you successfully pass all the tests and pass the tests without difficulty.

The estimated load is indicated in hours per week, which is convenient – so you can figure out in advance whether this mode suits you or if it is better to choose something more straightforward.
